P inputs determine denitrifier abundance explaining dissolved nitrous oxide in reservoirs

چکیده
Reservoirs are important sites for nitrogen processing, especially those located in agricultural and urban watersheds. Nitrogen inputs promote N2O production emission, but the microbial pathways controlling have been seldom studied reservoir water columns. We determined concentration column of 12 reservoirs during summer stratification winter mixing. explored potential sources sinks by quantifying key genes involved ammonia oxidation (bacterial archaeal amoA) denitrification (nirS nosZ). Dissolved varied up to three orders magnitude (4.7–2441.2 nmol L−1) across systems, from undersaturated supersaturated values (37%–24,174%) depending on depths. depended oxygen availabilities, with lowest highest at suboxic conditions. Ammonia-oxidizing archaea dominated over ammonia-oxidizing bacteria were not related dissolved N2O. In contrast, abundance nirS gene was significantly concentration, higher than amoA abundance. Denitrifying appeared consistently all reservoirs. The nosZ oxic waters, they more abundant waters. nitrate relative abundances explained Besides, positively total phosphorus cumulative chlorophyll a, a proxy fresh organic matter. Therefore, P inputs, just N promoted

Nitrous oxide emissions from tropical hydroelectric reservoirs
[1] We report original data on nitrous oxide (N2O) fluxes from two tropical reservoirs, their rivers below the dam, and from natural aquatic ecosystems and rainforest soils in French Guiana and Panama. We also review published N2O fluxes from other tropical reservoirs and natural environments. We show that: (1) N2O emissions from tropical reservoirs occur mainly at the reservoir surface, fluxes...
متن کاملNitrous Oxide Emission and Denitrifier Abundance in Two Agricultural Soils Amended with Crop Residues and Urea in the North China Plain
The application of crop residues combined with Nitrogen (N) fertilizer has been broadly adopted in China. Crop residue amendments can provide readily available C and N, as well as other nutrients to agricultural soils, but also intensify the N fixation, further affecting N2O emissions. N2O pulses are obviously driven by rainfall, irrigation and fertilization. Fertilization before rainfall or fo...
متن کاملChanges in denitrifier abundance, denitrification gene mRNA levels, nitrous oxide emissions, and denitrification in anoxic soil microcosms amended with glucose and plant residues.
In agricultural cropping systems, crop residues are sources of organic carbon (C), an important factor influencing denitrification. The effects of red clover, soybean, and barley plant residues and of glucose on denitrifier abundance, denitrification gene mRNA levels, nitrous oxide (N(2)O) emissions, and denitrification rates were quantified in anoxic soil microcosms for 72 h. nosZ gene abundan...
متن کاملP110: Nitrous Oxide and Neuroinflammation
Nitrous oxide was an anaesthetic gas that was used for many years. There were many anaesthetic drugs in operations with many side effects. Nitrous oxide had some side effects too. But it was a safe gas in many times. In hospital personnel who worked in operating rooms exposure to this gas was important. The objective of this study was the introduction of nitrous oxide and neurologic side ...
متن کاملDissolved methane in Indian freshwater reservoirs.
Emission of methane (CH4), a potent greenhouse gas, from tropical reservoirs is of interest because such reservoirs experience conducive conditions for CH4 production through anaerobic microbial activities. It has been suggested that Indian reservoirs have the potential to emit as much as 33.5 MT of CH4 per annum to the atmosphere. However, this estimate is based on assumptions rather than actu...
